Sports Taping, what is it?
The traditional sports taping and strapping method provided both muscle and joint support, but it also reduced the range of motion and support to the connective fascia tissue. In some cases it actually inhibited the healing process of the tissues.
Dr. Kenzo Kase was a Japanese Chiropractor. He formulated a tape and technique that has huge benefits not just for muscles and joints. It will also provide benefits for the lymphatic system and is widely used by therapists to help clients and athletes all over the world.
Kinesiology tape is used by therapists during your assessment for a number of reasons:
- Reduce symptoms of pain
- Reduce inflammation
- Support muscles or joints
- Proprioceptive feedback as a tool to correct posture
- Help activate muscles
How does it work?
The tape works by lifting the skin away from the underlying tissues increasing interstitial space this affects the blood/lymphatic capillaries and nerve receptors improving circulation and reducing pain.
